MUMBAI – India's imports of liquefied natural gas fell 1.5% on year to 2.83 billion standard cubic metres in February, mainly due to lower consumption, according to data released by the Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell. The country's LNG imports fell over 4% on year during Apr-Feb to 32 billion standard cubic metres. 

 

India's natural gas import bill fell slightly to $1.1 billion in February but declined around 11% on year to $12.4 billion during Apr-Feb from $13.9 billion a year ago, the data showed. The country consumed 5.4 billion standard cubic metres of LNG in February, down over 3% on year. Domestic production was 2.61 billion standard cubic metres last month, down 5% on year, data showed. India's import dependency rose to 52.3% in February from 51.4% a year ago. 

 

During Apr-Feb, natural gas consumption declined around 4% on year to 63.5 billion standard cubic metres and domestic production also fell around 4% to 31.9 billion standard cubic metres. Import dependency during the period declined to 50.4% from 50.6% a year ago. Natural gas production fell short of the February target of 2.83 billion standard cubic metres and the Apr-Feb target of 33.27 billion standard cubic metres, data showed.  End
