MCX iCOMDEX Composite opens up, then drops as bullion, metals indices fall

MUMBAI – The Multi Commodity Exchange of India's iCOMDEX Composite index opened higher Thursday, but fell soon due to a drop in bullion and metals indices. At 0936 IST, the iCOMDEX Composite index was down 0.7% from Wednesday's close. It had opened the day at 24667.10 points, a bit higher than the previous day's close of 24660.96 points.
The bullion index was down 0.9%, with the gold index down 0.7% and the silver index down 1.6%.
The base metals index was down nearly 1%, with copper down 1.5% and zinc down 0.9%. Aluminium and lead were down 0.5% and 0.3%, respectively.
However, the energy index was up 1.1% with crude oil index running 0.8% higher and natural gas index up 4.7%.
The MCX iCOMDEX Composite comprises a series of real-time commodity futures price indices and tracks the performance of a basket of commodity futures. It serves as a benchmark for market movements in bullion, base metals, and energy. End
