MUMBAI – The India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall and snowfall over parts of Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad and Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday and over parts of Uttarakhand on Thursday. Thundersquall with wind speeds reaching 50-60 kilometres per hour gusting to 70 kilometres per hour is very likely at some places over Uttarakhand on Thursday and Friday, the IMD said.

 

Some parts of Punjab are likely to experience hailstorm on Monday. Himachal Pradesh is likely to experience similar weather on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and Uttarakhand on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday. Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad is likely to see hailstorm on Wednesday, the weather department said.

 

Heavy rainfall is very likely over sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on Monday and the department has issued orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in several districts of sub-Himalayan West Bengal. The weather bureau also sees moderate rainfall with thunderstorm and lightning likely over northeast India in the next seven days. Hailstorm is likely over Assam, Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on Monday, it said. IMD has issued orange alert for several places of northeast India.

 

Moderate rainfall with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds speed reaching 30-50 kilometres per hour is likely over Central Maharashtra, Marathwada till Thursday. Similar weather is likely over Gujarat on Wednesday and Thursday and over Konkan and Goa along with thunderstorm and lightning on Wednesday and Thursday.

 

In terms of temperature, the weather department expects a gradual rise in maximum temperatures by 3-5 degrees Celsius over northwest India during the next three days and a gradual fall by 4-7 degrees Celsius in the subsequent two days and no significant change thereafter. No significant change in maximum temperatures likely over Madhya Pradesh during the next two days.

 

A gradual fall in maximum temperature by 3-5 degrees Celsius is likely over Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh during the next five days and no significant change during subsequent two days. No significant change in maximum temperatures is likely over south Peninsular India in the next two days and a gradual fall by 2-3 degrees Celsius is expected over the subsequent five days, the IMD said.  End
