MUMBAI - Global coffee prices fell in February, with the International Coffee Organization's composite indicator averaging 267.57 cents per pound, down nearly 10% from January. In the first few days of the month, prices continued the downward movement observed at the end of January, following reports of adequate rainfall in key coffee-growing regions of Brazil and strong exports from Vietnam. Further, forecast released by Brazil's Companhia Nacional de Abastecimento, known popularly as CONAB, on Feb. 5 confirmed expectations of a strong Brazilian crop in 2026, which weighed on prices, the organization said in a report.

The price of Colombian Milds coffee fell 11% on month in February to 330.89 cents per pound, and price of Other Milds fell nearly 12% to 321.35 cents per pound. In the same month, the price of Robustas declined by 6.6% to 179.73 cents per pound, according to the report.

The differential between Colombian Milds and Other Milds increased from 7.65 cents per pound to 9.54 cents per pound between January and February. The Colombian Milds–Brazilian Naturals differential shrank by 20.0% to 22.27 cents per pound and the Colombian Milds–Robustas differential fell 15.6% on month to 151.16 cents per pound, the report said. "The arbitrage between the London and New York futures markets shrank by 20.7% to 122.70 US cents/lb (cents per pound) in February 2026," it said.

Global green bean exports in January rose nearly 13% on year to 10.85 million bags (1 bag = 60 kg). The performance across four groups were mixed, the report said. Exports of the Other Milds and Robustas increased, while shipments of the Brazilian Naturals and Colombian Milds declined.

Green bean exports of the Robustas were up 49.1% at 5.25 million bags in January primarily driven by increased shipments from Vietnam, which increased 73.3% to 3.69 million bags. India, Indonesia, and Uganda also all contributed positively, with their combined exports up 20.4% at 1.2 million bags from 1.0 million bags last year. However, these gains were partly offset by Brazil, whose Robusta exports fell 25.0% to 180,000 bags, according to the report. "This pattern of decreasing exports from Brazil increasing shipments from India, Indonesia, Uganda and Vietnam has persisted during the first four months of coffee year 2025-26 (Oct-Sept)," it said.

Exports of the Colombian Milds declined by 19.5% on year in January to 990,000 bags. This marked the third consecutive month of negative growth following 25 months of consecutive expansion. Colombia's exports fell by 22.1% to 850,000 bags from 1.09 million bags in January last year, driven by falling local supply.

Shipments of the Other Milds increased by 33.8% in January to 1.94 million bags from 1.45 million bags in the same period in 2025. "Honduras and Nicaragua were the main drivers of the group's double-digit growth, with exports rising 53.0% and 108.0%, respectively, in January 2026," the report said. The main reason for the region's double-digit growth rate was the mismatch in the harvest start times between the current and previous coffee years, it said.

Green bean exports of the Brazilian Naturals declined by 22.2% to 2.66 million bags in January from 3.42 million bags last year. The Brazilian Naturals recorded their 11th consecutive month of negative growth in January, driven primarily by Brazil, whose exports fell 24.7% on year to 2.35 million bags. The total Arabica exports decreased to 5.59 million bags in January, down 8.3% from 6.1 million bags in January last year.

Global exports of all forms of coffee increased by 13.7% on year to 12.62 million bags in January, the report said. Export volumes expanded in three of the four regions, with South America being the only region that experienced a downturn.

Exports of all forms of coffee from Asia and Oceania were up 54.4% at 5.87 million bags in January from 3.8 million bags a year ago. Exports of all forms of coffee from Africa increased by 15.3% on year in January to 1.27 million bags. South America's exports of all forms of coffee fell by 21.3% on year to 4.0 million bags. Exports of all forms of coffee from Mexico & Central America rose by 33.5% on year during the month to 1.48 million bags, the report said.

Green beans were the largest form of coffee exported, accounting for 85.23% of total exports in the first four months of coffee year 2025-26 (Oct-Sept). Soluble and roasted coffee accounted 14.24% and 0.53%, respectively, the report said.  End
