MUMBAI – India's gross exports of gems and jewellery rose around 4% on year to $2.68 billion in February and gross imports were up around 11% on year at $1.59 billion, according to data from the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council. The country's gross gems and jewellery exports during Apr-Feb rose marginally to $25.93 billion, while gross imports rose nearly 7% to $18.64 billion.

 

Overall exports of cut and polished diamonds fell 0.8% on year to $1.35 billion in February and imports declined over 10% on year to $107.07 million. In Apr-Feb, exports of cut and polished diamonds fell around 7% on year to $11.32 billion while imports rose around 16% to $1.34 billion during the same period. The country's import of rough diamonds rose nearly 3% to $9.75 billion during Apr-Feb. Export of polished lab-grown diamonds rose around 2% on year to $113.74 million in February.

 

India exported $928.85 million of gold jewellery in February, up over 3% on year. Exports of gold jewellery in Apr-Feb rose 6% to $10.71 billion. Silver jewellery exports in Apr-Feb rose 55.4% to $1.39 billion. Exports of platinum jewellery during the same period rose over 44% on year to $236.62 million, according to the council.  End
