MUMBAI – India's soymeal exports are estimated to have fallen to 93,000 tonnes in February from 154,000 tonnes a year ago, according to The Soybean Processors Association of India. India exported soymeal to 49 countries in February, with Nepal, Bengium, France and Kenya being the top buyers, as per SOPA's data. Soymeal production in February is seen at 671,000 tonnes, down from 710,000 tonnes a year ago.

In Oct-Feb India's soymeal production is estimated to have fallen to 3.75 million tonnes from 4.06 million tonnes a year ago. Exports of soymeal during the same period is estimated to be 712,000 tonnes, down from 950,000 tonnes a year ago. 

Meanwhile, soybean arrivals in February are seen at 600,000 tonnes, down from 850,000 tonnes a year ago. In Oct-Feb, Soybean arrivals were seen lower at 5.7 million tonnes from 6.6 million tonnes a year ago.

In February, soybean crushing was at 850,000 tonnes, down from 900,000 tonnes a year ago, as per SOPA estimates. Soybean stocks in February were at 5.84 million tonnes. 

For the oilseeds year 2025-26 (Oct-Sept), India's soybean production is estimated at 11.0 million tonnes. In 2024-25, soybean output was 12.9 million tonnes, according to data from SOPA. 

The association has revised the soymeal export projection upwards for oil year 2025-2026 to 1.0 million tonnes from 800,000 tonnes projected earlier. Soybean crushing projections for the year is revised to 10.2 million tonnes, it said. The association has also revised the domestic consumption of soymeal for feed upwards to 6.2 million tonnes from 6.0 million tonnes earlier.  

Soybean is crushed to extract soyoil and the by-product, soymeal, is primarily used as poultry and livestock feed. Indian soymeal is not genetically modified and is rich in protein, making it attractive in global feed markets. However, competition from cheaper alternatives such as distiller's dried grains with solubles have weighed on exports. India is among the largest importers of soyoil and an exporter of soymeal.  End
