NEW DELHI – The government has approved 100% procurement of tur from farmers in Madhya Pradesh, a move aimed at supporting prices and ensuring stable incomes for growers in the state, according to an official statement released Thursday.
The approval was conveyed by Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan during a meeting with Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav in New Delhi, where the minister handed over a letter confirming full procurement of the pulse from the state, the release said.
The procurement will happen at the minimum support price of INR 8,000 per 100 kg. The decision will ensure that tur produced by farmers in Madhya Pradesh is fully purchased by the government, reducing the risk of price falls in the market and providing income stability to growers, the statement said.
Chouhan also approved the state government's proposal for price difference payment under mustard procurement, directing officials to expedite payments to farmers under the scheme.
The meeting, which was also attended by Madhya Pradesh Rural Development Minister Prahlad Patel and senior officials, discussed several agriculture and rural development issues concerning the state.
Officials reviewed matters related to price difference payments for mustard and soybean, additional targets for moong and urad under the pulses mission, the crop insurance programme, soil health initiatives, pending payments under the rural jobs scheme, and the implementation of rural housing and road schemes.
Chouhan said the central government was giving special priority to agriculture-dominant states such as Madhya Pradesh, adding that efforts would be made to ensure farmers cultivating mustard, tur, moong and urad receive necessary support. End
