MCX energy index sharply up, bullion index down; iCOMDEX up 0.6% Thursday

MUMBAI – A sharp rise in the energy index on the Multi Commodity Exchange of India on Thursday was partially offset by a fall in indices of bullion and a flat metals index, leading to the MCX iCOMDEX registering a small gain of 0.6% from the previous day's close.
The iCOMDEX opened Thursday at 25566.25 points, unchanged from the previous day's close, and at 0936 IST was trading at 25730.50 points. The energy index was up 7.2%, with crude oil index up 7.8% and the natural gas index higher by 2.2%.
On the other hand, gold index was down 0.2% and silver index was down 0.4%, pulling down the bullion index by 0.2%.
The base metals index was largely flat, registering a decline of less than 0.1%. While the index for aluminium was up 0.7% and that for lead was up by 0.2%, the index for copper was 0.4% down and that for zinc was 0.1% lower.
The MCX iCOMDEX comprises a series of real-time commodity futures price indices and tracks the performance of a basket of commodity futures. It serves as a benchmark for market movements in bullion, base metals, and energy. End
