NEW DELHI – Futures contracts of all spices on the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange fell Wednesday, weighed down by rising arrivals of the fresh crop. Moreover, rising hostilities in West Asia have hit market sentiment as the region is a major export destination for spices, according to analysts.
The most-active April contract of CORIANDER was down around 0.9% at INR 11,468 per 100 kg, as rising arrivals in Gujarat weighed on prices. The contract is likely to trade in the range of INR 11,500-INR 11,640 per 100 kg in the near term, SMC Global Securities said in a note.
The most-active April contract of JEERA was down 0.7% at INR 22,150 per 100 kg amid subdued domestic demand and rising arrivals. Furthermore, escalating tensions between the US and Iran have disturbed major shipping routes, adding uncertainty to export logistics and shipment flows, SMC Global Securities said. Comfortable stock levels and expectations of increasing new crop arrivals are likely to weigh on prices, Kedia advisory said in a note.
The most-active April contract of TURMERIC was down 1.3% at INR 14,552 per 100 kg as increasing arrivals, which are expected to gain momentum in the near term, are pressuring the market. Improving arrivals in Nizamabad, Telangana, and Sangli, Maharashtra, are adding to supply side pressures, SMC said. Moreover, geopolitical tensions in the Middle-East may dampen export demand, adding further pressure on prices, it added. SMC sees the contract trading around INR 14,340-INR 15,040 per 100 kg in the near term.
The following were the prices of the most-active spices contracts at closing at 1700 IST:
