NEW DELHI – Ex-mill prices of sugar were steady in the key markets of Maharashtra on Wednesday, but fell in major markets of Uttar Pradesh due to weak demand, said traders. They expect prices to be largely range-bound in the coming days.

 

Prices fell by INR 15-INR 20 in Uttar Pradesh due to tepid purchasing interest from bulk buyers, said Naresh Gupta, a trader from north India. Prices will largely remain steady at lower levels and are unlikely to rise in the next few days, he added. 

 

Ex-mill prices of sugar in Maharashtra remained steady amid lack of fresh cues, said Mukesh Kuvadia, secretary of the Bombay Sugar Merchants Association. Prices are likely to remain range-bound as demand is expected to be subdued in the coming days, he said.

 

Following are the highlights of sugar prices in the domestic market:

--Down INR 15-INR 20 at INR 3,925-INR 4,030 per 100 kg in West Uttar Pradesh

--Down INR 15-INR 20 at INR 3,925-INR 4,030 per 100 kg in Central Uttar Pradesh

--Flat at INR 3,805-INR 3,820 per 100 kg in Mumbai

--Flat at INR 3,990-INR 4,060 per 100 kg in Kolhapur

 

At 1800 IST, sugar prices on the Intercontinental Exchange were down 0.14% at 14.36 cents per pound.  End
