MUMBAI – The US Department of Agriculture has raised its estimate for global cotton production in 2025–26 (Aug-Jul) to 120.99 million bales (1 bale = 170 kilograms) from 119.86 million bales projected in February, it said in the March edition of its World Agriculture Supply and Demand Estimates monthly report. "... the global production forecast is raised over 1.1 million bales because of higher production in Brazil (larger area) and China (higher yield), partially offset by lower production in Argentina (reduced area)," the report said.  

 

World cotton consumption in 2025-26 is projected to be lower at 118.58 million bales, compared with 118.72 million bales projected last month. The global consumption forecast is down 140,000 bales with mill use projected lower in several countries, partially offset by higher consumption in China, the report said.

 

The department has raised its estimate for global cotton exports for 2025-26 to 43.91 million bales from 43.71 million bales. The department has increased its projection of world cotton ending stock estimate to 76.39 million bales from the earlier estimate of 75.11 million bales.

 

For India, the department has kept its estimate of cotton production for 2025-26 unchanged at 23.50 million bales and consumption at 25 million bales. It has also kept its projection of India's export of cotton unchanged at 1.40 million bales.  End
