MUMBAI – India Meteorological Department expects heavy rainfall over parts of Assam and Meghalaya on Saturday. Heavy rainfall or snowfall is also expected over parts of Jammu and Kashmir till Wednesday, and over Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday and Friday, the bureau said.

 

Light rainfall is also likely over Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh from Saturday to Monday, over west Uttar Pradesh on Sunday and Monday, over west Rajasthan on Saturday, and over east Rajasthan Saturday and Sunday. Scattered light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorm, lightning, and gusty winds with speeds reaching 30-50 kilometres per hour is expected over Odisha till Wednesday, and Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh on Friday and Saturday, the weather bureau said.

 

Meanwhile, heat wave to severe heat wave conditions are very likely in isolated pockets of Gujarat till Wednesday and over Himachal Pradesh and north Konkan Tuesday. Heat wave conditions are also expected in isolated pockets over west Rajasthan and Vidarbha till Wednesday. Hot and humid conditions are very likely to prevail over coastal areas of Gujarat till Friday, IMD said.

 

A gradual fall in maximum temperature by 5-6 degree Celsius is expected over western Himalayan region in the next seven days. No significant change in maximum temperature is likely over the plains of northwest India during the next two days and a gradual fall by 2-4 degree Celsius is likely in the subsequent five days. No significant change in maximum temperature is seen over south peninsular India in the next two days and a gradual rise by 2-3 degree Celsius is expected in the subsequent five days. Day temperatures are likely to be above normal by 2-3 degree Celsius over southeast peninsular India over the next five days, it said.  End
