India Apr-Jan tea exports up 17% on year to INR 71.98 bln, says Tea Board

MUMBAI – India exported tea worth INR 71.98 billion in Apr-Jan, nearly 17% higher than INR 61.70 billion a year ago, according to provisional data released by Tea Board India. In volume terms, exports rose over 10% to 233.14 million kilograms during the period.
Exports from northern India rose over 24% on year to INR 52.72 billion in Apr-Jan. Exports from southern India increased marginally to INR 19.26 billion from INR 19.25 billion. In volume terms, exports from northern India rose 22.5% on year to 160.24 million kg, while those from southern India declined nearly 10% on year to 72.90 million kg.
The average price of tea exported from north India was INR 329.03 per kg in Apr-Jan, up from INR 324.58 per kg a year ago. The average price of tea exported from southern India rose to INR 264.22 per kg from INR 235.51 per kg a year ago, the data showed. The average unit price of tea exported from the country rose to INR 308.76 per kg in Apr-Jan from INR 291.79 per kg a year ago, according to the data.
During Jan-Dec, India exported 289.40 million kg tea up nearly 10% and in value terms it was INR 84.88 billion, up over 18% on year. End
