MUMBAI – Mustard seed prices in key markets of Jaipur and Kota fell due to poor demand from millers amid bumper arrivals. Soybean prices fell in Ratlam but rose in Kota due to lower arrivals and groundnut prices were steady, they said.
MUSTARD seed prices in Jaipur, Rajasthan, fell INR 25 to INR 6,700-INR 6,725 per 100 kilograms due to poor demand from millers amid bumper arrival of crop, according to Marudhar Trading Agency. Mustard seed arrivals across the country were estimated at 725,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), according to GGN Research. Arrivals of crops on Thursday were at 650,000 bags. Traders said expectations of higher rabi output may push prices further down. Rabi mustard acreage was 8.94 million hectares, up 3.2% from the past year, according to agriculture ministry data.
In Kota, Rajasthan, mustard seed prices fell INR 250 to INR 6,350 per 100 kg, according to Mahesh Sameriya, a local trader. Arrivals in the market were 15,000 bags, down 2,000 bags from the previous day, he said.
SOYBEAN prices in Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, fell INR 50 to INR 2,700-INR 5,450 per 100 kg due to poor demand from millers, Narendra Porwal, a local trader, said. Arrivals were at 2,700 bags (1 bag = 40 kg), down 100, bags from the previous day. Government has sold stocks of soybean at INR 5,050 per 100 kg, which is why supplies increased in the domestic market, traders said.
Soybean prices in Kota rose INR 50 to INR 5,351 per 100 kg as arrivals in the market were slightly lower due to farmers holding back on stocks, Sameriya said. Arrivals were at 9,000 bags (1 bag = 40 kg), down 3,000 bags from the previous day, he said. As the government is selling stocks in the open market at lower prices, traders are rushing to buy the subsidised soybean. As a result, farmers are holding back their stocks because there is less demand for soybean at higher market prices.
GROUNDNUT prices in Ratlam were steady at INR 3,150-INR 8,050 per 100 kg, according to Porwal. Arrivals were 3,500 bags (1 bag = 30 kg) down 100 bags from the previous day. Groundnut prices could increase in the near term due to concerns about lower output, traders said.
