MUMBAI – Production of soybean across the country is seen falling over 14% on year to 11.03 million tonnes in 2025-26 (Oct-Sept), according to the Soybean Processors Association of India's revised kharif estimates. However, the association has revised production estimates upwards from its first estimate of 10.54 million tonnes. 

 

Production of the oilseed is seen falling from the previous year due to a decline in acreage. Acreage under soybean in the country fell over 5% on year to 11.21 million hectares, the association said. As per government data, the total soybean sowing area across India for the kharif season is 12.33 million hectares, the association said.

 

"The area figures are based on field survey as well as satellite-based area estimation and the difference between the government and SOPA average is mainly because of intercropping, over-reporting and complete washout during the initial phase due to excessive rains," the association said.

 

In 2025–26, the average yield of oilseed is estimated to decline to 980 kilograms per hectare, down from 1,089 kg per hectare in the previous year, the association said. In its first estimates, the association had pegged the average yield of soybean at 920 kg per hectare.
