NEW DELHI – Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with leaders of Qatar, Kuwait and Oman to condemn violation of their sovereignty and territorial integrity following the military conflict in West Asia. Modi also spoke with the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Crown Prince of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah and Oman's Sultan Haitham bin Tarik.
Modi conveyed his appreciation for continued support and care for the Indian community by these countries. He said there is an urgent need to restore peace and stability in the region through dialogue and diplomacy.
This comes in the backdrop of Israel and the US Saturday attacking Iran and killing hundreds, including the country's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Hosseini Khamenei. Iran has since retaliated against Israel and targetted US military facilities around the Persian Gulf. According to reports, the Iranian military has ordered the shut-down of the Strait of Hormuz, a passage which is used to transport about a third of the world's crude oil.
Earlier, Modi spoke with his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu and United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on the West Asia situation. End
