India Jan tea production down over 15% YoY at 14.50 mln kg, says Tea Board

MUMBAI – Tea production in India fell over 15% on year to 14.50 million kilograms in January, according to provisional data released by the Tea Board India. The country had produced 17.15 million kg of tea a year ago.
In January, tea production in north Indian states rose to 2.15 million kg from 70,000 kg a year ago. Production in south India was down nearly 28% on year at 12.35 million kg, the tea board said.
In north India, tea output from Assam surged to 560,000 kg from 30,000 kg recorded a year ago. Output in the Assam Valley was up at 530,000 kg from 30,000 kg a year ago. Production in West Bengal rose to 1.47 million kg from 30,000 kg recorded a year ago.
In south India, Tamil Nadu reported tea production down 35% on year at 7.70 million kg in January from 11.84 million kg a year ago. End
