Chana exports from India rose 37% on year to 127,864 tn in 2025, says IPGA

MUMBAI – Chana exports from India rose 37% on year to 127,864 tonnes in 2025 from 93,651 tonnes last year, driven by strong demand from the United Arab Emirates and Bangladesh, according to the India Pulses and Grains Association. The UAE, Bangladesh, and Iran were the largest importers of Indian chana, the trade body said, citing data from the Department of Commerce. 

 

The UAE was the largest importer of Indian chana, picking up 49,020.59 tonnes in 2025, followed by Bangladesh at 33,905.19 tonnes and Iran at 29,723.13 tonnes, the pulses body said. Other countries where India exported chana were Nepal, the US, the UK, Canada, China, Sri Lanka, and Malaysia, among others, it said.

 

Similarly, India's exports of moong also rose sharply to 156,449 tonnes in 2025 from 19,487 tonnes last year, led by strong demand from China, according to the pulses body. The largest importer was China, followed by Indonesia and the US.

 

China imported 111,092.74 tonnes of moong from India, Indonesia imported 7,813.54 tonnes, and the US imported 5,841.18 tonnes. Other countries that imported moong from India were Vietnam, the Philippines, the UAE, Nepal, Canada, Sri Lanka, the UK, Malaysia, Singapore, Bangladesh, Australia and a few others, the pulses body said.  End
