NEW DELHI – Futures contracts of turmeric and coriander continued to fall, while those of jeera were up on the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange Friday. Coriander prices remained lower as profit booking continued after prices hit a near three-week high on Wednesday. Increased arrivals and subdued demand continued to weigh on turmeric proces, according to analysts. Jeera proces rose due to lower sowing, pointing to tighter production prospects, they said.
At 1533 IST, the most-active April contract of CORIANDER was down 0.4% at INR 11,306 per 100 kg as traders continued to book profits after prices rose nearly 5% to INR 11,950 per 100 kg Wednesday. Prices have been rising on the back of strong demand ahead of the festival season as well as ongoing wedding season. Though higher supplies weighed on sentiment, there was a persistent demand for good-quality arrivals, SMC Global Securities said in a report.
The most-active March contract of JEERA was up 0.2% at INR 22,100 per 100 kg, supported by lower sowing and concern over crop, Kedia Advisory said. In Gujarat, acreage has fallen 14.34% on year, marking one of the slowest sowing seasons in recent years. The brokerage sees the contract trade with a "downward bias" as traders postpone new buying positions amid fresh harvest.
The most-active April contract of TURMERIC was down 1% at INR 15,430 per 100 kilograms as bulk buyers have restricted purchases at higher price levels. Rising arrivals are further exerting pressure on market sentiments, the brokerage said. However, the downside is likely to be limited amid wedding-related purchases and export demand.
