MUMBAI – Mustard seed prices fell in the key spot markets as arrivals of new crops increased significantly, traders said. Soybean prices were mixed, with prices rising in one market and steady in another. Groundnut prices remained steady across key markets, they said.
MUSTARD seed prices in Jaipur, Rajasthan, fell INR 50 per 100 kilograms to INR 6,725-INR 6,750, according to Marudhar Trading Agency. Mustard seed arrivals across the country were estimated at 625,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg) of new crop and 50,000 bags of old crop, according to GGN Research. Arrivals of new crops on Wednesday were at 550,000 bags. Traders said expectations of higher rabi output may push prices further down. Rabi mustard acreage was 8.94 million hectares, up 3.2% from last year, according to the agriculture ministry data.
In Kota, Rajasthan, mustard seed prices fell by INR 100 per 100 kg to INR 6,500 due to higher arrivals, according to Mahesh Sameriya, a local trader. The arrivals in the market were 15,000 bags, up 1,000 bags from the previous day, he said.
SOYBEAN prices at Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh were steady at INR 2,700-INR 5,500 per 100 kg, Narendra Porwal, a local trader, said. Arrivals were at 2,800 bags (1 bag = 40 kg), unchanged from the previous day.
Soybean prices in Kota rose INR 50 per 100 kg to INR 5,351 due to firm demand from millers, Sameriya said. Arrivals were 10,000 bags (1 bag = 40 kg), the same as the previous day.
GROUNDNUT prices in Ratlam were steady at INR 3,150-INR 8,050 per 100 kg, according to Porwal. Arrivals were steady at 3,600 bags (1 bag = 30 kg). Groundnut prices could increase in the near term due to concern over lower output, traders said.
