India receives 70% below normal rainfall at 1.8 mm in week to Wed, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received average rainfall of 1.8 millimetres in the week ended Wednesday, 70% below the normal of 6.1 millimetres for the period, according to the India Meteorological Department. Since Jan. 1, the country has received 15.4 millimetres of rainfall, 58% below the normal of 37.0 millimetres, the data showed.

 

Out of the four homogeneous regions, two recorded below-normal rain during the week, one got above-normal showers, and rainfall in one subdivision remained in line with the period's average. In central India, 1.3 millimetres of rainfall was recorded, which is consistent with the normal rainfall for the region during this period, according to the data. Rainfall in east and northeast India was 87% below normal at 1.1 millimetres. Northwest India recorded 0.8 millimetres of rainfall, 93% below normal. However, the southern peninsula received 4.9 millimetres of rain, which was 144?ove normal, the data showed.

 

Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, one received "normal" rainfall and 14 recorded "large deficient" showers, while five recorded "deficient" rainfall. One subdivision received "excess" rain and 11 subdivisions received "large excess" showers. There was no rainfall in four subdivisions during the week.  End
