NEW DELHI – The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs Tuesday approved three projects worth INR 90.72 billion for expansion of the Indian Railways network. These projects are the Gondia–Jabalpur line doubling, Punarakh-Kiul third and fourth lines, and Gamharia-Chandil third and fourth lines, a government release said.
The three projects will cover districts in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Bihar. Together they will increase the length of the country's railway network by 307 kilometres, as per the release.
"The increased line capacity will significantly enhance mobility, resulting in improved operational efficiency and service reliability for Indian Railways," according to the release. "These multi-tracking proposals are poised to streamline operations and alleviate congestion." End
