Global body says production of primary aluminium up 0.3% on month in January

MUMBAI – Global production of primary aluminium rose nearly 0.3% on month to 6.32 million tonnes in January, according to data from the International Aluminium Institute. On a year-on-year basis, the production was up over 1%.
The average daily global aluminium production in January rose to 203,800 tonnes from 203,200 tonnes in December. China's aluminium production rose nearly 0.3% to 3.79 million tonnes in January from 3.78 million tonnes the previous month, and was up nearly 2% on year, the data showed.
In Asia, excluding China, production rose to 417,000 tonnes in January from 415,000 tonnes recorded in the previous month. In Africa, aluminium output in January was 135,000 tonnes, down from 137,000 tonnes in the previous month.
In countries under the Gulf Cooperation Council, production rose by 3,000 tonnes to 524,000 tonnes in January. Production of primary aluminium in Europe, including Russia, rose to 613,000 tonnes in January from 610,000 tonnes the previous month. The output of the metal in North America rose 3,000 tonnes to 336,000 tonnes in January and production in South America fell 5,000 tonnes to 128,000 tonnes.
Global alumina production rose over 3% on month to 13.57 million tonnes in December, according to data from the International Aluminium Institute. At 0924 IST, the three-month aluminium futures contract on the London Metal Exchange was at $3,120.00 per tonne, up 1% from the previous close. End
