NEW DELHI – Futures contracts of coriander and jeera fell and those of turmeric rose on the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange Thursday. Turmeric prices have been rising after they fell to their lowest level so far in 2026 on Monday. Prices of jeera fell due to profit booking and those of coriander corrected after rising 3% on Wednesday, analysts said.
At 1850 IST, the most-active April contract of TURMERIC was up 0.7% at INR 15,560 per 100 kilograms after they fell to a low of INR 14,800 on Monday, as arrivals rose in the domestic markets. Farmers and stockists have reportedly reduced their holdings, tightening near-term supplies and lending strength to prices ahead of the new crop, Kedia advisory said.
However, gains may be capped as fresh arrivals at Erode in Tamil Nadu are expected to pick up over the next couple of weeks, it said. SMC Global Securities sees prices hovering in the range of INR 15,050-INR 15,850 per 100 kg in the near term due to gradual rise in new arrivals.
The most-active March contract of JEERA was down 0.1% at INR 22,880 per 100 kg due to profit booking as prices had risen on lower sowing and concern over crop, SMC said. Prices had risen after falling to a one-month low of INR 21,825 per 100 kg Tuesday.
Prices have been sliding as arrivals of the new crop have started trickling into some markets. Prices are expected to remain pressured as arrivals gather momentum from March, SMC Global said.
The most-active April contract of CORIANDER was down 2% at INR 10,580 per 100 kg as prices corrected after rising 3% Wednesday, SMC said. Prices had risen due to a drop in acreage as well as the low pace of arrivals. Going ahead, inventories, the pace of arrivals, and weather-related developments are expected to shape market sentiment, the brokerage said in a report.
The following were the prices of the most-active spices contracts:
Contract | Exchange | Unit (kg) | Price (INR) | Change (INR) |
Coriander Apr | NCDEX | 100 | 10,580 | (-)214 |
Jeera Mar | NCDEX | 100 | 22,880 | (-)15 |
Turmeric Apr | NCDEX | 100 | 15,560 | 112 |
End
