NEW DELHI – The Food Corp. of India Wednesday signed a five-year memorandum of understanding with the United Nations' World Food Programme to supply 200,000 tonnes of rice annually in support of global humanitarian operations, the government said in a release.

The agreement provides for FCI to supply rice with up to 25% broken grains to the United Nations agency as it works to combat hunger worldwide. The memorandum was signed by FCI Chairman and Managing Director Rabindra Kumar Agarwal and World Food Programme Deputy Executive Director Carl Skau in the presence of Food Secretary Sanjeev Chopra, the release said. The pact will remain valid for five years from the date of signing and can be extended by mutual consent.

Under the agreement, prices will be determined annually, with the current rate fixed at INR 2,800 per 100 kg until Mar. 31, 2026. "Through our partnership with World Food Programme, we are exporting hope, nutrition, and dignity to those facing hunger," Chopra said, adding that the agreement reflects India's resolve to ensure food security and combat malnutrition globally.   End
