India receives 98% below normal rainfall at 0.1 mm in week to Wed, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received average rainfall of 0.1 millimetre in the week ended Wednesday, 98% below the normal of 6.3 millimetres for the period, according to the India Meteorological Department. Since Jan. 1, the country has received 13.6 mm of rainfall, 56% below the normal of 30.9 mm, the data showed.

 

All four homogeneous regions of the country received below normal rainfall during the week. No rainfall was recorded in central India, against the normal of 2.5 millimetres for the period, according to the data. Rainfall in east and northeast India was 99% below normal at 0.1 millimetre. Northwest India recorded 0.3 millimetre of rainfall, 98% below normal, while the southern peninsula received 0.1 millimetre of rain, which was 96% below normal, the data showed.

 

Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, one received "normal" rainfall and 11 recorded "large deficient" showers. There was no rainfall in 24 subdivisions during the week.  End
