IMD sees thunderstorms in northern states Tue on fresh western disturbance

MUMBAI – A fresh western disturbance is likely to begin affecting the western Himalayan region from Monday, causing rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning over parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, west Uttar Pradesh, and north Rajasthan on Tuesday, the India Meteorological Department said.

 

Under the same weather system, rainfall or snowfall is expected over parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad on Monday and Tuesday, and over parts of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on Tuesday and Wednesday, the weather department said.

 

Dense fog conditions are likely during the morning hours in parts of Himachal Pradesh till Sunday, the weather department said. Visibility drops to 0–50 metres in "very dense fog" conditions and to 51–200 metres in "dense fog" conditions.

 

The weather department has issued a yellow alert for hot and humid conditions over coastal Karnataka till Sunday, and over Konkan and Goa during the weekend. A yellow alert is issued when the maximum temperature is 4.5 degrees Celsius to 6.4 degrees Celsius above normal. 

 

No significant change in minimum temperature is likely over northwest India in the next two days, after which a gradual rise by 2–3 degrees Celsius is seen in the subsequent three days, the weather bureau said. In central India, no major change in minimum temperature is expected in the next two days, and thereafter a rise by 2–3 degrees Celsius is seen in the subsequent five days, the bureau said.

 

In Maharashtra, no significant change in minimum temperature is expected in the next four days, after which a gradual rise by 2–3 degrees Celsius is likely in the subsequent three days, the weather department said. No significant change in minimum temperature is likely over the rest of the country, the department said.

 

A gradual rise in maximum temperature over many parts of Maharashtra and Karnataka by 2–3 degrees Celsius is expected in the next four days, after which it is likely to fall in the same range in the subsequent three days, the weather department said.  End
