MUMBAI – Oilseed prices were mixed Thursday in key spot markets of the country, traders said. Mustard seed prices rose in Rajasthan's Kota and Jaipur due to the arrival of seeds with higher oil content, while soybean and groundnut prices fell in Madhya Pradesh's Ratlam due to higher arrivals, they said.
MUSTARD seed prices in Jaipur rose by INR 25 to INR 7,125-INR 7,150 per 100 kilograms as there was firm demand for the new crops, according to Marudhar Trading Agency. Mustard seed arrivals across the country were estimated at 100,000 bags of old crops (1 bag = 50 kg) and 225,000 bags of the new crop, the same as the previous day, according to GGN Research.
In Kota, mustard seed prices rose by INR 100 to INR 6,700 per 100 kg as new arrivals were dry and had higher oil content, local trader Mahesh Sameriya said. Arrivals in the market were 12,000 bags, up 2,000 bags from the previous day, Sameriya said.
SOYBEAN prices fell by INR 100 in Ratlam to INR 2,700-INR 5,450 per 100 kg as arrivals rose, said Narendra Porwal, a local trader. Arrivals were at 2,600 bags (1 bag = 40 kg), up 100 bags from the previous day.
Prices in Kota remained steady at INR 5,300 per 100 kg amid sluggish demand and higher palm oil imports, Sameriya said. Arrivals were at 10,000 bags (1 bag = 40 kg), the same as the previous day, Sameriya said. India's palm oil imports are estimated to have risen sharply to 758,709 tonnes in January from 240,276 tonnes a year ago, as the oil became cheaper than other oils, Informist had reported.
GROUNDNUT prices in Ratlam fell INR 100 to INR 3,100-INR 8,000 per 100 kg due to higher arrivals, according to Porwal. Arrivals rose to 3,900 bags (1 bag = 30 kg), up 200 bags from the previous day.
