India receives 94% below normal rainfall at 0.3 mm in week to Wed, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received average rainfall of 0.3 millimetres in the week ended Wednesday, 94% below the normal of 5.5 millimetres for the period, according to the India Meteorological Department. From Jan. 1 to Feb. 11, the country received 13.4 mm of rainfall, 45% below the normal of 24.6 mm, the data showed.
All four homogeneous regions of the country received below-normal rainfall during the week. No rainfall was recorded in central India, against the normal of 2.1 millimetres for the period, according to the data. Rainfall in east and northeast India was 94% below normal at 0.4 millimetres. Northwest India recorded 0.8 millimetres of rainfall, 93% below normal, while the southern peninsula received 0.1 millimetres of rain, which was 96% below normal, the data showed.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, one received "deficient" rainfall, while 11 recorded "large deficient" showers. There was no rainfall in 24 subdivisions during the week. End
