MUMBAI – Prices of edible oils were mixed in key markets. Mustard seed prices fell in Jaipur and Kota due to heavy arrivals of the new crop, traders said. Soybean fell in Kota and were steady in Ratlam, and groundnut prices were steady, they said.
MUSTARD seed prices in Jaipur fell by INR 25 to INR 7,100-INR 7,125 per 100 kilograms despite good demand as arrivals rose sharply, according to Marudhar Trading Agency. Mustard seed arrivals across the country were estimated at 100,000 bags of old crops (1 bag = 50 kg) and 225,000 bags of the new crop, up 25,000 bags from the previous day, according to GGN Research.
In Kota, Rajasthan, mustard seed prices fell INR 200 to INR 6,600 per 100 kg as new crops are arriving in full swing. Arrivals were at 10,000 bags, up 1,000 bags from the previous day, local trader Mahesh Sameriya said.
SOYBEAN prices in Kota fell INR 300 to INR 5,300 per 100 kg due to an increase in imports of cheaper crude palm oil, Sameriya said. Arrivals were 10,000 bags (1 bag = 40 kg), same as the previous day, Sameriya said. India's palm oil imports are estimated to have risen sharply to 758,709 tonnes in January from 240,276 tonnes a year ago, as the oil became cheaper than other oils, such as soyoil and sunflower oil, Sunvin Group Chief Executive Officer Sandeep Bajoria said.
