MUMBAI – The US Department of Agriculture has revised its estimate for global oilseed output for 2025-26 (May-Apr) upwards due to higher production in Brazil and Paraguay, it said in its World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates report for February. The department now projects global oilseed output at 695.78 million tonnes from 693.15 million tonnes estimated in January.

The department has raised its estimate for oilseed production in Brazil by 2.0 million tonnes to 180.0 million tonnes in February due to higher acreage and yield, which reflected beneficial weather throughout the season in the country. Production estimates in Paraguay are also pegged higher by 500,000 tonnes to 11.5 million tonnes due to favourable rainfall during the season, it said.

Production of oilseeds in countries excluding the US is estimated at 569.54 million tonnes, up from 566.91 million tonnes seen in January. The output of oilseeds in the US in 2025-26 is unchanged at 126.24 million tonnes. Global ending stocks of oilseeds in 2025-26 are estimated at 146.30 million tonnes, up from 145.07 million tonnes projected last month, according to the department.

"Another notable revision is higher 2025-26 palm oil production for Malaysia, up 500,000 tonnes to 20.2 million tonnes," the department said.

The USDA has also raised its global soybean output estimate to 428.18 million tonnes from 425.68 million tonnes projected in January. The estimate for soybean production in the US is unchanged at 115.99 million tonnes.

The department has pegged global soybean exports in 2025-26 at 187.57 million tonnes, unchanged from the forecast given in January. Global soybean imports in 2025-26 are projected at 185.99 million tonnes, down from the 186.04 million tonnes projected last month. China is reportedly considering buying more soybean from the US, the department said. "Global soybean import demand is nearly unchanged from last month, so, therefore, if China bought more from the US, global soybean exports will likely be shifted with more US shipments to China and less to other markets," it said.

Global ending stocks of soybean are estimated at 125.51 million tonnes, up from 124.41 million tonnes forecast in January, mainly due to higher stocks in Brazil, the department said. Global beginning stocks of soybean are estimated at 123.66 million tonnes, marginally up from 123.40 million tonnes seen in January, the department said.

The department estimates global soybean meal output in 2025-26 at 288.94 million tonnes, up from 287.71 million tonnes seen the previous month. Soybean meal is a derivative of soybean, manufactured by crushing oilseeds, and is mainly used in producing poultry feed. Soybean crush estimates in Brazil and Paraguay are pegged higher due to a rise in demand for soybean meal globally, particularly from the European Union, based on the pace of imports to date, the department said. "Similar to the US, growth in EU oilseed meal demand grew substantially in 2024-25 due to competitive prices," the department said. In 2025–26, the growth in demand is expected to moderate with a higher share of rapeseed meal, given the recovery of the crop this marketing year, it said.

The estimate of soybean meal production in India in 2025-26 is left unchanged at 7.42 million tonnes. India is one of the largest importers of soy oil and an exporter of soybean meal.

The projection for global vegetable oil production has been raised to 235.10 million tonnes from 234.21 million tonnes estimated in January.  End
