MUMBAI – Prices of most edible oils were mixed in key markets. Mustard seed prices fell in Rajasthan's Jaipur due to sluggish miller demand amid bumper arrivals of the new crop, but remained steady in Kota, traders said. Soybean prices fell in Kota, but were steady in Madhya Pradesh's Ratlam, they said.
MUSTARD seed prices in Jaipur fell by INR 75 to INR 7,125-INR 7,150 per 100 kilograms due to tepid demand amid sharply higher arrivals, according to Marudhar Trading Agency. Mustard seed arrivals across the country were estimated at 100,000 bags old crops (1 bag = 50 kg), and 200,000 bags of the new crop, according to GGN Research. During the previous day, total arrivals were 155,000 bags.
In Kota, Rajasthan, mustard seed prices were steady at INR 6,800 per 100 kg. Arrivals were at 9,000 bags, up 1,000 bags from the previous day, local trader Mahesh Sameriya said.
SOYBEAN prices in Kota fell INR 50 to INR 5,601 per 100 kg due to higher arrivals and an increase in imports of cheaper crude palm oil, Sameriya said. Arrivals were 10,000 bags (1 bag = 40 kg), up 2,000 bags from the previous day, Sameriya said. India's palm oil imports are estimated to have risen sharply to 758,709 tonnes in January from 240,276 tonnes a year ago, as the oil became cheaper than other oils, such as soyoil and sunflower oil, Sunvin Group Chief Executive Officer Sandeep Bajoria said.
Soybeans were steady in Ratlam at INR 2,700-INR 5,550 per 100 kg after falling by INR 200 the previous day, said Narendra Porwal, a local trader. Arrivals were at 2,500 bags (1 bag = 40 kg), up 400 bags from the previous day.
GROUNDNUT prices in Ratlam were steady at INR 3,100-INR 8,100 per 100 kg, after increasing the previous day due to good demand, according to Porwal. Arrivals were steady at 3,700 bags (1 bag = 30 kg).
