NEW DELHI – Under the influence of a western disturbance, isolated rainfall and snowfall is likely over the western Himalayan region from Monday to Wednesday, while no significant weather activity is expected over the rest of the country during the next seven days, the India Meteorological Department said Saturday.
According to the India Meteorological Department, the western disturbance, seen as a cyclonic circulation over Jammu and adjoining areas, is expected to intensify weather activity over the western Himalayan region early next week. As a result, isolated to scattered rain and snowfall is likely over Jammu and Kashmir–Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand from Monday to Wednesday.
The department also forecast scattered to fairly widespread rainfall and snowfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds reaching 30–40 kmph, over Jammu and Kashmir–Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday.
Minimum temperatures over northwest and central India are expected to remain largely unchanged over the next two days, followed by a gradual rise of 2–3 degrees Celsius thereafter. No major change in minimum temperatures is likely over the rest of the country during the period.
Dense fog conditions are likely during morning and night hours at isolated places over Uttarakhand till Sunday, the IMD said. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into parts of the southwest Bay of Bengal and along the south Sri Lanka coast from Saturday to Thursday. End
