India receives 61% below normal rainfall at 1.5 mm in week to Wed, says IMD

NEW DELHI – India received an average rainfall of 1.5 millimetres in the week ended Wednesday, 61% below the normal 3.9 millimetres for the period, according to the India Meteorological Department. From Jan. 1 to Feb. 4, the country received 13.1 mm of rainfall, 31% below the normal of 19.1 mm, according to the data.
All four homogeneous regions of the country received below-normal rainfall during the week. East and northeast India received 0.8 mm of rain, 85% below normal, while northwest India received 4.0 mm, 44% below normal. Central India received 76% below normal rainfall of 0.4 mm during the week. The South Peninsula received 0.2 mm of rainfall, 83% below normal, according to the weather department.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, one received "large excess", three received "excess", and one received normal rainfall during the week. Three subdivisions received "deficient" showers, while 11 got "large deficient" rainfall. There was no rainfall in 17 subdivisions during the week. End
