India Dec tea production up 160% YoY at 79.40 mln kg, says Tea Board

MUMBAI – Production of tea in India rose nearly 160% on year to 79.40 million kilograms in December, according to provisional data released by the Tea Board India Tuesday. The country had produced 30.6 million kg of tea in December 2024. During Jan-Dec, India produced 1.37 billion kg of tea of different varieties.
Tea production in north Indian states rose a whopping 403% on year in December to 61.38 million kg, while that in south India, it was nearly 2% lower on year at 18.02 million kg, the Tea Board said.
In north India, tea output from Assam surged 238.5% on year to 22.58 million kg in December, and output in Assam Valley was at 20.70 million kg, up nearly 224%. Production in West Bengal was up nearly 613% at 36.78 million kg.
In south India, Tamil Nadu reported tea production of 12.93 million kg in December, up 0.5% on year. End
