MUMBAI – Mustard seed arrivals across the country are estimated at 10.53 million tonnes from March 2025 to January 2026, Jaipur-based Marudhar Trading Agency said in a report on Tuesday. Mustard seed arrivals in January are pegged at 450,000 tonnes, up from 400,000 tonnes in December, it said. Mills in India have crushed 700,000 tonnes of mustard seeds in January, the agency estimated. It also pegged all-India mustard seed crushing at 10.93 million tonnes so far in the season, which began in March.

Mustard, a rabi crop, is sown between October and early December across north, east, and northeast India. The crop matures in 108–147 days and is harvested between mid-February and May. Marudhar Trading Agency retained its mustard production estimate for the crop year 2024-25 at 11.83 million tonnes.

Government agencies such as the National Agriculture Cooperative Marketing Federation of India and the Harayana state Cooperative Supply and Marketing Federation procured around 975,000 tonnes of mustard seeds by the end of January, according to data from Marudhar Trading Agency.

Total stock across the country at the end of January was estimated at 900,000 tonnes, including 500,000 tonnes with farmers. Stockists and processors held around 200,000 tonnes, while the National Agriculture Cooperative Marketing Federation of India and the Haryana state Cooperative supply and Marketing Federation had 200,000 tonnes, the data showed.  End
