Gujarat final rabi acreage up 2% on year at 4.95 mln ha

MUMBAI – Rabi crops in Gujarat were sown across 4.95 million hectares, up nearly 2% on year, according to the final rabi sowing report released by the state agriculture department on Monday. The state's rabi acreage in 2025-26 (Jul-Jun) has surpassed the state's normal rabi acreage of 4.64 million hectares, which is the average of the last three years.

 

Wheat acreage in the state rose to 1.48 million hectares from 1.37 million hectares a year ago, the report showed. Maize acreage rose to 144,933 hectares from 134,480 hectares. The total area under all cereal crops was 1.66 million hectares, up from 1.54 million hectares a year ago.

 

The area under chana rose to 919,179 hectares from 849,703 hectares a year ago, the report showed. The total area under all pulses in the state rose to 974,210 hectares from 921,093 hectares a year ago.

 

The total area under all oilseed crops was 285,997 hectares, up from 260,382 hectares a year ago, according to the report. Under oilseeds, the acreage of mustard rose to 283,999 hectares from 258,229 hectares.

 

The area under sugarcane in the state was 182,208 hectares, down from 189,683 hectares a year ago, the report showed. The area under tobacco rose to 172,476 hectares from 163,813 hectares. Cumin acreage in the state fell to 408,199 hectares from 476,537 hectares, and coriander acreage fell to 126,470 hectares from 130,731 hectares.

 

The area under onion rose to 94,810 hectares from 93,515 hectares a year ago, according to the report. The acreage of potato rose to 168,163 hectares from 156,207 hectares a year ago. The area under all other vegetables was down at 210,022 hectares from 221,253 hectares a year ago.  End
