NEW DELHI - Sanjeev Asthana, president of the Solvent Extractors Association of India, said the following on the Union Budget for 2026-27 (Apr-Mar), presented in the Lok Sabha by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday:

The Union budget was a critical opportunity to support India's agriculture and specifically the edible oil sector. The Solvent Extractors Association has been constantly representing the government that our edible oil imports have been skyrocketing and need urgent policy intervention. The Budget did not touch on measures that would reduce our dependence on the import of edible oil, in line with our Prime Minister's vision on Atmanirbharta in Edible Oil.  End
