Global alumina output up 3% on month Dec - International Aluminium Institute

MUMBAI – Global alumina production rose over 3% on month to 13.57 million tonnes in December, according to data from the International Aluminium Institute. On a yearly basis, alumina production was up nearly 6% from 12.83 million tonnes.
Average daily global alumina production rose to 437,600 tonnes in December from the revised 437,300 tonnes in November, as per the data. Alumina production in China rose to 8.17 million tonnes in December from 8 million tonnes in November. The country's output, which accounts for 60% of global alumina production, was over 8% from a year ago, the data showed.
In the Oceania region, alumina output rose over 6% on month to 1.54 million tonnes in December. In Africa and Asia, excluding China, alumina production rose nearly 6% on month to 1.37 million tonnes. In Europe, including Russia, production rose by 46,000 tonnes from last month to 640,000 tonnes in December and the output in South America rose by 20,000 tonnes from November to 1.04 million tonnes, the data showed.
According to the International Aluminium Institute, global production of primary aluminium was down over 3% on month to 6.1 million tonnes in November. At 1326 IST, the most active February aluminium contract on the Multi Commodity Exchange of India was down 3% at INR 331.60 per kg. On the London Metal Exchange, the three-month aluminium contract was down 1% at $3,173.50 per tonne. End
