Rajasthan's second advance estimate pegs 2025-26 maize output down 27% YoY

MUMBAI – Total maize production in Rajasthan is estimated at 1.60 million tonnes, down more than 27% from 2.21 million tonnes produced a year ago, according to the second advance estimates of area, production and yield for 2025-26 (Jul-Jun) released by the state's agriculture department. This includes production estimates for both kharif and rabi seasons.

 

The total area under food grains is pegged at 28.40 million tonnes, up more than 6% on year, the report showed. Food grains include cereals and pulses.

 

Production of wheat in the state is estimated at 15.05 million tonnes, up nearly 24% on year. Bajra output is pegged at 4.04 million tonnes, down 14% from the previous year, while barley production is projected at 1.57 million tonnes, up over 9% from last year.

 

Production of chana during 2025-26 is pegged at 2.61 million tonnes, up 4% on year, according to the report. Masur output is projected at 40,266 tonnes, down nearly 15% from last year. The total output of moong is estimated at 1.42 million tonnes, down from 1.50 million tonnes produced last year. Total urad production is expected to fall more than 45% on year to 108,464 tonnes. Production of pulses during both the kharif and rabi season is pegged at 4.71 million tonnes, down over 1% on year, the report said.  

 

Production of total oilseeds in 2025-26 is projected at 10.04 million tonnes, up more than 4% on year, according to the report. Groundnut output is pegged at 2.95 million tonnes, up from 2.37 million tonnes in the previous year, the report showed. Production of mustard is expected to rise 3% on year to 5.72 million tonnes, while production of soybean is expected to fall nearly 43% on year at 687,209 tonnes, the report said. 

 

Production of sugarcane is expected to be at 361,272 tonnes this year, down from 440,109 tonnes in the previous year, the report showed. Guarseed output is projected at 1.51 million tonnes, down nearly 22% on year.

 

During the kharif season, the total area covered in the state was 15.80 million hectares, down nearly 5% on year. The area sown under all rabi crops was 11.72 million hectares, up 5% on year, according to the report.  End
