MUMBAI – India's natural gas production fell 2.5% on year to 2.86 billion cubic metres in November, according to a report by the Gas Exporting Countries Forum. The output was down because of a fall in output from offshore fields, which account for 72% of India's production, and fall in output from the onshore field in Gujarat. The country's natural gas production in the period from January to November was down more than 3% on year to 31.8 billion cubic metres, the inter-government organisation comprising the world's leading gas exporters said in its report.
Global gas production in November rose over 1% on year to 360 billion cubic metres. All gas producing regions, except Eurasia, saw a positive production variation, with North America, specifically the US, leading the growth. On the other hand, Eurasia recorded the largest fall in output in November, of about 3%, according to the report.
India's natural gas consumption in November rose 1.6% on year to 5.9 billion cubic metres, marking its third consecutive growth after seven months of on-year decline. The consumption was up due to rise in demand for city gas distribution and from power generation, refinery, and petrochemicals sectors. The demand from these segments rose 17%, 15%, 6.5%, and 9.7% on year, respectively.
The fertiliser industry was the largest consumer of natural gas, accounting for 30% of the total demand, followed by city gas distribution at 24%.
Aggregate gas consumption in some of the major gas-consuming countries, which account for 75% of the global gas demand, increased 1.4% on year to 3.21 trillion cubic metres in the first 11 months of 2025. The European Union, the UK, North America, and Asia recorded growth, according to the report. End
