NEW DELHI – Mustard seed prices rose in key markets of Rajasthan on concerns about supply amid persistent heavy rains across north India. Groundnut prices rose further in Bikaner, Rajasthan, due to reduced supplies of good-quality seeds. Soybean prices were mixed across states, rising in Madhya Pradesh on lower arrivals but remaining steady in Maharashtra.

MUSTARD seed prices in Jaipur, Rajasthan, rose INR 25 to INR 7,300-INR 7,325 per 100 kilograms, according to Marudhar Trading Agency. Mustard seed arrivals across the country were at 200,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), including 25,000 bags of new crop arrivals, according to GGN Research. Arrivals in Rajasthan were at 75,000 bags, down 5,000 bags from Thursday. Arrivals in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh were at 20,000 bags each, unchanged from the previous day.

The average price of mustard seeds in Alwar, Rajasthan, rose INR 50 to INR 7,310 per 100 kg, according to spot prices on the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange. Continuous heavy rains, cold conditions, and dense fog across Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh have caused damage to the standing mustard and potato crops.

Mustard crops are witnessing a loss of flowers and fruits, while potato crops face an increased risk of rotting. Waterlogging in fields is directly impacting crop health and potentially increasing yield losses, according to various regional media reports.

The weather department has forecast hailstorms across Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh over the next few days. In the past 24 hours, most parts of northwest India recorded spells of moderate rainfall and snowfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds, and hailstorms, the India Meteorological Department said. This was likely due to the presence of a well-marked low pressure lying over north Pakistan, with its associated cyclonic circulation extending northwards, it said.

SOYBEAN prices rose in key markets of Madhya Pradesh amid lower arrivals but were largely steady in Maharashtra. The average prices of soybean in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, rose nearly INR 60 to INR 5,490-INR 5,520 per 100 kg, according to spot prices on NCDEX.

Soybean prices across Madhya Pradesh markets rose INR 100 amid firm demand and reduced arrivals in the state, according to GGN Research. Arrivals in Madhya Pradesh were down 35,000 bags to 75,000 bags. Soybean arrivals across the country fell to 200,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), amid lower arrivals in Madhya Pradesh. Arrivals in Maharashtra were 100,000 bags and in Rajasthan at 12,000 bags, unchanged from the previous day, it added.

The average soybean prices in Akola, Maharashtra, were flat at INR 5,454 per 100 kg, according to spot prices on NCDEX.

GROUNDNUT prices in Bikaner, Rajasthan, rose INR 170 to INR 6,620-INR 6,920 per 100 kg, according to NCDEX spot prices. Firm demand for groundnut amid reduced supply of good-quality seeds suitable for crushing is supporting the prices, according to traders.
