NEW DELHI – India's foreign exchange reserves rose above the $700 billion mark in the week ended Jan. 16 after seeing the biggest weekly rise in over 10 months. According to data released by the Reserve Bank of India Friday, foreign exchange reserves rose $14.17 billion on week to $701.36 billion as of Jan. 16.
Foreign exchange reserves have risen past the $700 billion mark for the first time since October. Reserves had hit a lifetime high of $704.89 billion in the week ended Sept. 27, 2024.
Foreign currency assets rose $9.65 billion on week, the biggest weekly rise since March, to $560.52 billion as of Jan. 16. The value of the central bank's gold holdings rose $4.62 billion on week to a record high of $117.45 billion as of Jan. 16.
Calculated in dollar terms, the RBI's foreign exchange reserves also reflect the impact of appreciation or depreciation of currencies other than the dollar, such as the euro, the pound sterling, and the yen, held by the central bank. End
