India receives 97% below normal rainfall at 0.1 mm in week to Wed, says IMD

NEW DELHI – India received an average of 0.1 millimetres of rainfall in the week ended Wednesday, 97% below the normal 3.9 millimetres for the period, according to the India Meteorological Department. From Jan. 1 to Jan. 21, the country received 1.9 mm of rainfall, 82% below the normal of 10.6 mm, according to the data.
All four homogeneous regions in the country received below-normal rainfall during the week. East and northeast India received 0.1 mm of rain, 98% below normal, while northwest India received 0.0 mm, 99% below normal. Central India also received 99% below-normal rainfall during the week. On the other hand, the South Peninsula received 0.3 mm of rainfall, resulting in a 81% deficit, according to the weather department.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, 22 did not receive any rainfall and 10 received "large deficient" rainfall during the week. Four subdivisions received "deficient" rainfall in the week ended Wednesday. End
