MUMBAI – Thunderstorms accompanied by hailstorms, lightning, and gusty winds with speeds reaching 50–60 km per hour are likely over Punjab on Thursday and Friday, and over Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi on Friday, the India Meteorological Department said. Similar weather conditions with gusty winds reaching 40–50 km per hour are likely over most parts of northwest India till Friday, the weather department said.

These weather conditions are likely under the influence of multiple weather systems over and near north India, the department said. Currently, a western disturbance acting as a cyclonic circulation lies over north Pakistan, while another such weather system lies over northeast Iran. An upper cyclonic circulation lies over northwest Uttar Pradesh. Another fresh western disturbance is likely to affect northwest India from Monday, the department said.

An upper air cyclonic circulation also lies over the southeast Arabian Sea, which is likely to cause thunderstorms accompanied by lightning over Tamil Nadu over the weekend, the weather bureau said.

Dense fog conditions are expected during the morning and night hours in parts of Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh till Thursday and from Saturday to Monday and in west Rajasthan from Saturday to Monday, the bureau said.

Minimum temperatures are likely to rise gradually by 2–4 degrees Celsius in northwest India in the next two days, after which a gradual fall in the same range is expected in the subsequent two days. This is expected to be followed by a rise in the same range thereafter, the weather bureau said.

In central India, no significant change in minimum temperature is likely in the next two days, after which a gradual fall of 2–3 degrees is seen in the subsequent two days, and thereafter, a rise by 2–4 degrees Celsius is expected. A gradual rise in minimum temperatures by 2–4 degrees Celsius is likely in Maharashtra over the next two days, the bureau said.

In Gujarat, no major change in minimum temperature is expected in the next two days, and thereafter a gradual fall of 2–3 degrees Celsius is likely in the subsequent two days. This is likely to be followed by a gradual rise of 2–4 degrees Celsius, the bureau said. No significant change in minimum temperature is expected over the rest of the country, it said.  End
