NEW DELHI – Futures contracts of coriander rose, while turmeric and jeera declined on the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange on Tuesday. Prices of coriander rose on festival demand and lower acreage, and turmeric fell on resistance at higher levels ahead of the new crop arrivals, analysts said. Jeera prices fell amid profit-booking after hitting a six-month high earlier in the day.

The most-active April contract of TURMERIC fell 1.8% to INR 17,740 per 100 kilogram on buying resistance at higher levels, taking cues from the new crop arrivals in some pockets of Nizamabad to the tune of 500 bags, SMC Global Securities said in a note. Expectations of improved arrivals with favourable crop size are estimated to weigh on prices in the coming days, but tight supply due to the weak crop last year is seen as supporting prices to some extent till arrival flow rises, the brokerage said.

The most-active March contract of JEERA declined 0.9% to INR 24,370 per 100 kg on profit booking, after prices touched a six-month high of INR 24,780 per 100 kg earlier in the day. However, the downside is seen as limited due to strong export demand, festival-season buying, and lower sowing levels, supporting the overall market tone, SMC Global said. Low arrivals at Unjha and premium prices for good-quality cumin will also provide support, Kedia Advisory said.

The most-active April contract of CORIANDER rose 1.3% to INR 11,902 per 100 kg on festival season demand, which is expected to keep prices high, SMC Global said. However, the upside may be capped by weak buying interest at elevated levels. According to the brokerage, prices are likely to consolidate in the INR 11,680-INR 11,820 per 100 kg range.
