--Govt allows export of up to 500,000 tonnes of wheat products
MUMBAI – The Centre has allowed exports of up to 500,000 tonnes of wheat flour and related products, according to a notification by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The first set of applications seeking export authorisation have been invited from Jan. 21 to Jan. 31. Thereafter, applications shall be invited during the last 10 days of each month till the time such exports are permitted, it said.
The export authorisation shall be valid for six months from its date of issuance. Any request for extension of the validity period shall be considered by a special exim facilitation committee on a case-by-case basis.
Flour mills or processing units having valid importer-exporter code and FSSAI licence for manufacturing wheat flour and related products will be eligible to apply. Merchant exporters having valid importer-exporter code and FSSAI licence as well as valid tie-ups with flour mills will also be eligible, the notification said.
The notification comes at a time when expectations of a robust wheat output in the ongoing rabi season had worried traders. They expect wheat prices to fall as they see output in this rabi season surpassing the previous year's record high of 117.94 million tonnes because of higher acreage and favourable crop conditions. As of Jan. 9, wheat acreage in the country was up around 2% at 33.42 million hectares. End
