Dense to very dense fog to persist in north Indian states till Tue, says IMD

MUMBAI – Dense to very dense fog is very likely to prevail during the early hours in some parts of Uttarakhand till Sunday, the India Meteorological Department said. Similar conditions are also expected during the night and early morning hours over parts of Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh till Saturday, and over parts of western Uttar Pradesh till Monday and eastern Uttar Pradesh till Tuesday, the weather department said.
Dense fog conditions are expected over parts of northwest, northeast, and eastern India till Tuesday, the weather department said. Visibility drops to 0–50 metres in "very dense fog" conditions and between 51-200 metres in "dense fog" conditions.
Cold wave conditions are very likely in a few parts of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, western Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Odisha on Saturday, the weather department said. Similar weather conditions are also expected over parts of east Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh during the weekend. Cold day conditions are expected over parts of Uttarakhand and western Uttar Pradesh till Saturday and over eastern Uttar Pradesh during the weekend, the weather department said.
A cold wave condition is when the minimum temperature drops to 10 degrees Celsius or less in the plains and 0 degree Celsius or lower in hilly regions, according to the weather bureau. Cold day conditions are associated with a fall in maximum temperatures, typically occurring due to persistent low clouding. A cold day occurs when the maximum temperature during the day is at least 4.5 degrees Celsius below normal.
Conditions remain favourable for the cessation of northeast monsoon rainfall over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, and the adjoining areas of Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, and south interior Karnataka during the next two days, the weather bureau said.
A gradual rise in minimum temperature by 2–4 degrees Celsius is expected over northwest and central India during the next three days, the weather bureau said. Over eastern India, no significant change in minimum temperature is expected during the next two days, after which a gradual rise by 2–4 degrees Celsius is likely during the subsequent three days.
No significant change in the minimum temperature is expected over Maharashtra during the next 24 hours and thereafter a gradual rise by 2–3 degrees Celsius is seen in the subsequent three days. In Gujarat, a gradual rise in minimum temperatures by 2–3 degrees Celsius is expected during the next 24 hours. No significant change in minimum temperatures is likely over the rest of the country, the weather department said. End
