EIA says US natural gas stocks down 71 bcf in week ended Jan 9

MUMBAI - US natural gas inventories fell by 71 billion cubic feet in the week ended Jan. 9, according to data from the US Energy Information Administration. However, the inventory was nearly 3.4% higher than the five-year average for this time of the year, the agency said in its weekly report.
The total working gas in underground storage was 3.19 trillion cubic feet as of Jan. 9. The stocks were 106 billion cubic feet higher than the five-year average of 3.08 trillion cubic feet, the report said.
Total working gas remained within the five-year historical range. The east, midwest, mountain, Pacific, and the non-salt region in south central saw a fall in inventories. Stocks in the salt region in south central saw a rise from the previous week. At 0902 IST, the most-active February contract of natural gas on the New York Mercantile Exchange was up 1% at $3.161 per million British thermal units. End
