MUMBAI – Mustard seed prices rose in Jaipur because of firm demand but were down in Kota, traders said. Soybean prices fell in Kota and were steady in Ratlam, they said. However, oilseed prices are likely to rise as there is demand from millers due to increase in cost of imported crude edible oil, they added.
MUSTARD seed prices in Jaipur, Rajasthan, rose by INR 25 to INR 7,200-INR 7,225 per 100 kilograms due to strong demand from millers, according to Marudhar Trading Agency. Mustard seed arrivals across the country were at 200,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), the same as the previous day. Mustard seed prices from mandis across Rajasthan were unavailable Wednesday as markets were shut on account of Makar Sankranti festival.
In Kota, mustard seed prices fell by INR 150 from Tuesday to INR 6,650 per 100 kg. But prices are likely to rise as there is good demand in the state, said Mahesh Sameriya, a local trader. Arrivals totalled 4,000 bags, same as on Tuesday, Sameriya said.
SOYBEAN prices at Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh were steady at INR 2,850-INR 5,050 per 100 kg after rising by INR 100 Wednesday, said Narendra Porwal, a local trader. Arrivals in the market were at 7,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), up 1,000 bags from the previous day, he said.
Soybean prices in Kota fell INR 100 from Tuesday to INR 4,950 per 100 kg, Sameriya said. However, prices are likely to rise further, driven by strong demand from millers as cost of imported crude edible oil has increased, according to Sameriya. Arrivals in the market were 14,000 bags, same as Tuesday, he said.
